Farewell to Laurel

Laurel passed away in Northam Western Australia on 9 June 2013 after a short illness.  Laurel loved to read and she had a passion for writing.  Over 43 years of writing Laurel was a prolific author self-publishing eight books that included children's stories, historical romance, regency novels, murder mysteries, and her West Australian epic The Walara Series.  In April 2013 she self-published the printed version of Journey from Walara.  Laurel was keen for The Walara Series to be completed and the third book will be published posthumously.  Her short stories and poetry have been included in several anthologies.

Laurel had a wide range of friends from her childhood, from her many years living in Hopetoun Western Australia, and from her writing.  The thoughts of Laurel's many friends to her family have been a great comfort and reflect how highly she was regarded.

Farewell

  1. To Laurel's family and her daughter Dawn who posted this message, please accept my deepest sympathy. Laurel's passing is such a sad loss and so unexpected. It was so like Laurel to keep her troubles to herself and keep on writing in spite of her struggle with her illness. As one in constant contact with her from a distance, I didn't hear one word of complaint. She just had writing goals to meet and she met them. Laurel was an inspiration to me, a lovely hostess and generous friend. I'm so glad I had her in my life and that I have her books to read and reread. Laurel was a loving friend and I will truly miss her.

  2. I mentioned Laurel in several of my blogs before she passed away. It was my pleasure to have known her through the Internet Writer's Workshop.

  3. My deepest sympathy go to Laurel's family. It has been an honour knowing and being part of Laurel's online circle of friends.
She has always been a generous, talented and supportive influence. Her passing came as a huge surprise. So sad. Sorry not to have been able to farewell her or tell her how much her friendship meant.
Thankfully her words will live on.
